I Saw You

I Saw You

“Your visit was brief but not in my head,
the girl with the crooked ponytail,”
Number 9 said in the paper I read.

“You ordered a sandwich without the bread
and a glass filled with ginger ale.”
Monday, the 25th at Cheese & Boarshead.

“I wanted to say something but I left instead.”
21 year old male seeking female.
Number 9 said in the paper I read,
on monday, the 25th at Boarshead.

The Lamp Lighter

The Lamp Lighter

You bragged you weren’t a fighter, a lover not a fighter

As we sat on the corner of James and High.

You bit your cigarette and took out your lighter,

Watching a pair of lovers fight nearby.

As we sat on the damp corner of James and High,

I thought I’m not a lover, oh god I’m just a writer,

Watching a pair of lovers push and grope nearby,

And your cigarette ablaze, a conversation starter.

I thought I’m not a lover, oh god I’m just a writer,

While the street lamps lit up and multiplied,

And your cigarette ablaze, a conversation starter,

Blew a cloud of blue smoke into a starless sky.

While the street lamps lit up and multiplied,

You recognized the lovers, the tease and the man beside her,

Blew a cloud of your haze into a starless sky,

And then looked away from their lips wet with ardor.

You recognized the lovers, the tease and the man beside her.

I watched you silently as you flicked your lighter.

When you looked away from their lips wet with ardor,

You said you are a lover, but I think you’re just a liar.

There Is Beauty To Be Found In Ruins

In a state of uncomfortable happiness
like a planet spinning out of its orbit
shaking off the shackles of restraint and control
feeling the solitary slap of wind and blur
of breathless euphoria

one clear night you might see me
falling from the heavens
arms outstretched, ready to kiss the ground
in happy defeat
and then, might I find my feet again

but until that day
I am beyond the grasp of gravity
happily knowing
that the higher I travel
the harder I might fall
in love
