Out of Water

Out of Water

Finally out of water, I can breathe again

two years spent at the bottom of the Atlantic,
tracing the arm strokes to where you are

You were far away, but all around me.
I was drowning in your love,
your lies, your charming deception

Finally out of water, I can breathe again
and onto a new world I stumble.

the world is harder here,
no water to float upon, no dreams to lift me up

the waves were high enough
so that I didn’t touch the ground
but not close enough
to reach heaven
